Light up the Sky

Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) is a polar phenomenon that causes natural light play in various colors against the sky. These lights are produced when the earth’s magnetosphere is disturbed by solar wind and magnetospheric plasma. Then, green, orange and purple bands of color dance in the space known as the auroral zone. Photographers the world over rush to catch these miracles of nature. A lucky few succeed.

Shot in Alaska, these photos represent the night in all its untamed wonder. In the past, humans may have experienced these lights as gods, omens, or magic. Today, we know more about the physics, but science cannot compare to sheer wonder.
