Land of the Rising Sun
Japan is an island nation in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies off the eastern coast of the Asian mainland. There, it stretches from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the southwest.
The kanji that make up the country’s name mean “sun origin”. Hence, this country’s nickname, “Land of the Rising Sun”.
The country lies on a stratovolcanic archipelago consisting of about 6,852 islands. Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku are the four largest, and they make up 97% of Japan’s land area. For this reason, the people call these the home islands.
Because of its vast area, this country boasts multiple climates as well as natural wonders. In terms of government, the country contains 47 prefectures in eight regions. Of these, Hokkaido is the northernmost prefecture. Meanwhile, Okinawa the southernmost one.
From snowy landscapes to sunny beaches, this region of the world is a wonder for visitors and photographers alike. However, make sure to allow ample time for travels!
