Prionace glauca

Blue sharks (Prionace glauca) are a species of requiem shark, in the family Carcharhinidae. They inhabit deep waters in the world’s temperate and tropical oceans. That said, they prefer cool waters and migrate long distances, such as from New England to South America. They can move quickly and feed primarily on small fish and squid. However, they can also attack larger prey.

Blue sharks have long pectoral fins. They are countershaded: meaning the top of the body is deep blue, lighter on the sides, and the underside is white. In terms of size, the male blue shark commonly grows to 1.82 to 2.82 m (6.0 to 9.3 ft) at maturity, whereas the larger females reach 2.2 to 3.3 m (7.2 to 10.8 ft).

Gracefully shaped, the blue shark is fairly elongated and slender. It typically weighs from 60-121lbs (27-55kg) in males and from 205-401lbs (93-182 kg) in large females.
