Clownfish
Clownfish or anemonefish are fishes that form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. Depending on species, these fish may be an overall yellow, orange, reddish or blackish color. Many show white bars or patches. The largest can reach a length of 15–16 cm (5.9–6.3 in), while the smallest are a mere 7–8 cm (2.8–3.1 in).
These fish live in the warm waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, including the Great Barrier Reef and the Red Sea. While most species have restricted distributions, others are widespread. Anemonefish live at the bottom of shallow seas in sheltered reefs or in shallow lagoons.
Famous due to the movie Finding Nemo, clownfish provide a great photographic subject. Their bright-colored bodies dart between the anemones’ waving fingers. They are little, hidden jewels of the reef.
