Haliaeetus albicilla
The white tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), also known as the erne, gray eagle, Eurasian sea eagle and white-tailed sea-eagle, is a large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. This family also includes other raptors such as hawks, kites, and harriers. White-tailed eagles live in Eurasia. There, they shelter near large bodies of open water, so long as there is an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting.
The largest population in Europe is found along the coast of Norway. The population in 2008 stood at 9,000–11,000 pairs.
A very large bird, this type of eagle is a close cousin of the bald eagle.
