Milvus migrans
The black kite (Milvus migrans) is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is a diurnal raptor, and is thought to be the world’s most abundant species of Accipitridae.
From their perches high in the trees, black kites are opportunistic hunters. They are even likely to scavenge. Because of this, they spend a lot of time soaring and gliding in thermals in search of food. Their angled wings and distinctive forked tails make them easy to identify. Additionally, these birds display a shrill, whinnying call.
This kite lives throughout the temperate and tropical parts of Eurasia and parts of Australasia and Oceania. However, the temperate-region populations tending to migrate. While European populations of this bird are small, the South Asian population is very large.
