The Grand Staircase

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument lies in southern Utah, tucked north of Lake Powell and east of Bryce Canyon National Park. Vast and sweeping, the monument area contains three main regions. These are the Grand Staircase, Kaiparowits Plateau, and Canyons of the Escalante.

Here, the landscape is rugged and austere. In this high, remote region, bold plateaus and multi-hued cliffs run long distances to where they melt into streaming waterfalls.

Photographers hoping to shoot here must set out on multi-day backpacking trips. However, for the in intrepid, there is much to explore. For example. Coyote Gulch boasts spectacular waterfalls as well as cottonwood trees that turn yellow in the fall. Meanwhile, the famous Zebra, Peek-A-Boo, and Spooky slot canyons are all located south of the town of Escalante.
