Tidal Pools and Beaches
Manuel Antonio National Park, or Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, is a small national park in the Central Pacific Conservation Area. This area lies on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Established in 1972, this park is the smallest of Costa Rica’s national parks. However, this destination draws as many as 150,000 visitors annually. In 2011, Forbes magazine listed Manuel Antonio among the world’s 12 most beautiful national parks.
The park contains four beaches: Manuel Antonio, Espadilla Sur, Teloro, and Playita. The first is separated from the second by a “tombolo,” or natural land bridge formed by sand accumulations. Both Manuel Antonio and Espadilla Sur contain tidal pools for snorkeling.
Due to its location in tropical forest, this park’s lush greenery buts right up to its white sand beaches. Even more charming, the park teems with secret coves. Mantled howler monkeys, white faced capuchin, and three toed sloths hang from the trees. All lie in wait for the intrepid adventurer.
