Matterhorn of North America
This provincial park is located southwest of Banff National Park in Canada. At 11,870 ft (3,618 m), it is the highest peak in the Southern Canadian Rockies. Due to this mountain’s pyramidal shape, it has been unofficially named the “Matterhorn” of North America.
Despite a lack of scrambling routes, this mountain is a favorite for mountaineers and climbers. North Ridge and North Face offer the easiest routes. Trekkers reach those via the Hind Hut.
Most often, photos of this region include nearby Lake Magog. That’s because the mountain looks most majestic when reflected in the lake. Compared to the lake, Mount Assiniboine rises nearly 5,003 ft (1,525 m.)
Photographers shoot Mount Assiniboine in the fall, at sunrise. At that time of year, larch trees turn a brilliant golden yellow.
